March is Social Work Month: Tammie Veader
Meet Tammie Veader. Tammie is from Milton, Florida. She attended University of West Florida and didn’t choose social work – it chose her. A friend in college suggested she take a social work course as an elective while majoring in a completely different field. After just a few weeks into her social work elective class – she changed her major and never looked back. She enjoys helping others and being an advocate for children and families.
Tammie’s first job as a Social Worker was with FamiliesFirst Network as a Foster Care Case Manager. She spent 17 years working for FamiliesFirst in various roles to include being an Adoptions Case Manager, Licensing Specialist, and Unit Manager over Foster Home Licensing in Escambia and Santa Rosa County. She also served as the Foster Home Program Manager for Embrace Florida Kids Foster Care during her time as a social worker. Tammie joined NWF Health Network in October 2022 as the Licensing Review Specialist for the Foster Family Support Team in Circuit 1. She has thoroughly enjoyed being part of such an exciting time in establishing a support system for foster parents in the Circuit 1 community.
Tammie’s advice for new social workers is to take time to take care of yourself or it will be hard to help take care of others. Also, don’t forget every day is a new day to begin again. Start each day with a fresh new start.
In her free time, Tammie enjoys spending time with her husband and son. She also loves watching documentaries and all things Disney.
Thank you, Tammie! You take such great care of the children and families in our community!
