March is National Social Work Month: Samantha Tolbert

Mar Tue, 2023, See more: Staff Spotlight

Samantha Tolbert was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida. She graduated from University of West Florida and has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Child Welfare, and a Masters in Social work. Samantha wanted to become a social worker because she has always had a heart and passion for children and knew that was going to be her niche. She says she knows she cannot save them all or help them all but she can at least try to help those whose lives she comes in contact with. Samantha just wanted to make a difference and she knew Social Work was where she can achieve that.

Samantha has only been in the Social Work field for about 3 years now, so she is still fairly new to the field. She spent 2 years working with Post-Adoption families and 1 year in Level 1 Kinship licensing in Circuit 1. She has had families tell her that she made them feel heard and valued. Some families have even said that they can see Samantha put’s her heart in helping them get licensed as quickly as possible.

Samantha has some thoughts and advice for new Social Workers:

1. This field is hard but very rewarding at the same time.

2. Find a hobby outside of your job. This field will consume you if you are not careful.

3. Be someone who you would want in your life in times of crisis.

When Samantha isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. “I have three children who are my world and they also help remind me why I do what I do.”

We appreciate your dedication and outstanding work!
